Tips to clean Laser Printer Toner Cartridges

Cleaning your laser printer is a simple way to extend its shelf life and improve its performance level. Laser printers have a lot of complex moving parts, especially toner cartridges, which have to be well maintained periodically to play their role in the laser printing process.

In this write-up, we have discussed ways to clean laser printer toner cartridge: -

1) Isopropyl alcohol/ aerosol spry duster:- Never use rubbing alcohol. The cleaning formula is used to clean cd, tape drive, ect. 99% are isopropyl and are fine to use.

2. Turn off your laser printer one hour before cleaning:- Laser printers need to be cooled so that you do not electrocute yourself.

3. Remove the detachable components:- It includes toner cartridge, toner bottle and drum unit. Do not touch the surface of the drum unit and keep it in an area without light.

4. Remove the extra toner while resting the toner cartridge on a second active toner cloth.

5. Place the toner vacuum in the printer chassis:- Use a toner vacuum to slowly remove any dropped toner in the internal component. Make sure that the toner does not touch any internal surfaces inside the vacuum printer.

6. Clean the hard-to-reach spots with a paintbrush:- Remove all toner found in crevices, then use a toner vacuum to remove any dust or debris left behind.

7. Clean the corona wires:- Dip a cotton swab in isopropyl alcohol and gently rub the strands with a cotton swab. Make sure you do not leave under the wires and replace the cotton swab as necessary. Never apply pressure, as corona wires are fragile and expensive (poor combination).

8. Wash the paper feed roller:- Again, dip a cotton swab into the isopropyl and rub the paper feeder in a circular motion with a cotton swab to remove toner build-up. Change cotton swab as required.

9. Re-enter all components and close the printer.

10. Clean and disinfect the exterior of the laser printer. Remove all dust and debris build-up by using an active toner cloth and isopropyl alcohol.
