If you have printers in your office that you rarely use, you run the risk of the printer ink drying out. When you try to use these old cartridges to print your business documents, the output will be vague and barely readable. Fortunately, there are several steps you can take to protect your printer’s ink from becoming useless.

Below is a list of recommendations to help prevent an inkjet printer’s ink from drying out.

1) Turn off the printer when not in use:- turning on the printer can dry the ink, making sure to turn it off whenever the printer is not being used.

2) Turn off the printer correctly :- When turning the printer off and on, it must be done using the front or side buttons of the printer. You should not stop using the power strip.

3) Adjust Temperature:- Maintaining a moderate temperature in your office can go a long way to prevent printer cartridges from drying out. Ink dries out faster when exposed to excessive heat or cold, so try to maintain a comfortable 68 degrees in your office. Besides extending the life of your cartridges, this measure will create a more comfortable work environment for your employees.

4) Keep cartridges active:- A simple way to prevent printer ink from drying out is to use ink cartridges. Make a point to print at least several pages a week, even if you just print a test page and then leave it. Additionally, make sure that the document you print uses all the colors in your ink cartridge. This will ensure that rarely used colors do not dry up and the cartridges become unusable, which can cause headaches when you are in a hurry to print important documents.

5) Damp cartridge:- Regular moistening can extend the life of your printer cartridges, especially if they do not get much use. Put on protective gloves and remove the cartridge from the printer. Gently wipe the top of each cartridge with a clean, damp cloth or paper towel to remove residual ink from the surface. This helps prevent the cartridge from closing, ensuring a continuous flow of ink during print jobs. Dry the soaked cartridges before re-inserting them into your printer.
